Ye Olde Stone School tutor Damian Cudmore is a stonemason and student of architectural history, with a passion to share the traditional crafts of stonemasonry with ‘youth’ of all ages.
Damian teaches the splitting, chiselling and building of stone towards the traditional details, textures and proportions found in historic cottages.
He started Ye Olde Stone School in response to the many who express love for ‘old stone’, and who wish they could ‘build like that’ today.
Apart from chisel skills, Ye Olde Stone School offers an understanding of architectural history so participants learn not only the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of stone details, but also the ‘why’ behind his quest for spatial delight.
Depending on the wants and needs of course participants, Damian may draw on other tutors from his artisanal network to help out at Ye Olde Stone School.
