Elegant designs are only realised when they are built into a building.

Historic and contemporary spaces receive rich spatial capital from the hands of site artisans, delivering a range of proportions, surface textures and building patterns.

true stone design is proud to be associated with:

Building - Site manager

Trevor Shortland

Trevor has been building stone for thirty five years and has been associated with true stone design for the last five.

An accurate and efficient fixer (install) stonemason, Trevor manages true stone site setouts and build programs.

Heritage Conservator

Dennis Kalous

A sculptor by trade, Dennis is a master of materials and a stone patching specialist.

After training in Czechoslovakia as a modeller of fine china and industrial ceramics, Dennis brings his unique skills to stone repairs in the restoration of historical buildings and monuments.

With a rare understanding of materials, and a shared passion for restoring traditional architecture, Dennis regularly complements true stone design’s period restorations.

William Zuccon, the architect on one such project, expressed his appreciation:

“Dennis Kalous was recently engaged on our heritage-listed stone house project  in Darling Point.

“Repairing or replacing certain areas with dressed sandstone was out of the question being either prohibitively expensive or totally impractical.

“Dennis was able to refinish these surfaces to look exactly like the adjoining genuine stonework.

“In 30 years as a practicing architect I have never witnessed such almost miraculous work.

“Dennis made a wonderful difference to our project.”

Heritage Stone Restoration

Rob Steedman

Rob and true stone design engage in joint ventures on larger restoration projects.

A second generation stonemason from the UK, Rob qualified in traditional stonemasonry with top marks in the UK in 1996, after an apprenticeship with his father’s York Stone Restoration business.

Rob has continued the craft, and the family business, in Australia where he is well regarded in the heritage stone industry.

THW Architects

Tim West

Tim is an architect with a body of work that includes heritage and contemporary fusions. He also understands the enhancement that traditional stone proportions and textures bring to a space.

THW Architects and true stone design have collaborated on several projects since 2014.
